pickle dip tasting notes

Ada and I went to two different grocery stores today and as usual, lingered at the dips too long. Realized that my world has gone from zero prepackaged pickle dips to FIVE pickle dip options. Had to do the obvious.

All tested with Ole Salty’s original chips. We also had Mrs. Fisher’s Dark chip bag on standby in case of emergency.

Taste of the South Fried Pickle and Ranch Dip (Costco) – big hunks of pickle, strongly dill, light base. Not sure where fried comes from. Beth’s favorite for “session” pickle Dip consumption. Lightest.

Dean’s Deep Fried Pickle Flavor Dip (Rockford Woodman’s in the dairy section) – really smooth, no pieces of pickle, but has very strong flavor of the deep fried breading somehow? Most accurate flavor of what it is claiming to be. Beth’s favorite for a chip or two but not for sustained snacking.

Plucky Pickle Dip original (Rockford Woodman’s, all of the Plucky dips were in the case in produce where the hummus is, as they have a white bean base) – beans are obvious. The clear health food choice. Pickle hummus. Ada’s favorite.

Plucky Mustard and cheddar – hint of pickle, mostly a beer cheese taste. I want to dip a soft pretzel in it, not a chip. Zach’s favorite.

Plucky Spicy – instantly spicy, and is a spicy pickle flavor, not just heat. Pickle heat. Reminds me of my great grandma Clara’s hot pickles.
