day 4 of our Road America IMSA trip
By Sunday, I was sleeeepy and we were moving significantly slower than the rest of the weekend. One thing I have neglected to mention is that every night, I was coming back to the hotel and commandeering Zach’s laptop in order to watch the 360 Nationals AND the Ironman from Pevely at the same time until oh dark hundred, the average finish time of sprint car A mains.
I’ve become my father.
“The Kink” is the name of turn 11 at Road America and “Drama at the Kink!” was an exclamation from a commentator on Sunday, not just the name of my next band.
Sunday’s race included the polesitter getting into a wreck during morning warmups and a different competitor getting axle-deep in the gravel during the formation lap. 10am racing is 10am racing, whether it’s the P Main of the Chili Bowl or the fancy sporty cars, I guess.
Happy flyover! I think it’s a C17 Globemaster. She got a big ass and matches a lot of Globemaster pics I found on the internet.
(That JG Wentworth Racing hat cost me MULTIPLE social media likes and follows as that was the only way to buy spins on the merch giveaway wheel. Zach wanted the trucker hat and Ada wanted a plastic JG Wentworth viking hat with horns and everything. I ran out of social media accounts to sacrifice to another spin.)
The World’s Biggest Motorsports fan hung out long enough to make a solo trip to the Gearbox for an ice cream, but then she stretched out to watch a movie instead of the race.
See, if you just put your child directly on the ground to start with, you don’t have to worry about them falling through grandstands because the snacks are so good. I’m breaking the cycle of generational trauma over here.
Our traditional stop when we come through Milwaukee on the way home from Road America or anything else to the north is the Mequon Public Market, where Purple Door ice cream and Aloha Poke have locations within yards of each other.
My Purple Door order was a split of blueberry buttermilk and lemon cardamom. Ada had lime blackberry and salted caramel. Zach had olive oil and gravel road.
Home gets its own adventure bullet point this week, as we have only 3 days to do laundry and turn around the truck and head down the road in a different direction for another trip next weekend.
