Day 12 – Breckenridge, CO to North Platte, NE
We woke up in Breckenridge on Tuesday morning, just another couple of asshole Jeep owner tourists in Colorado. But we had a sweet, sweet pool.
We had our last green chile smothered breakfast burrito in Breckenridge and struck out for Leadville, the highest stop on our vacation and the home of the National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum. In other words, more rocks.
Leadville was a tiny bit of a backtrack, we might’ve been there the afternoon of the day before if not for the whole “blew up the car” situation. But the timing worked out wonderfully and we had a beautiful day to wind around the mountains.
We stopped at a deli in Idaho Springs, CO and that was really the point in the trip where we felt like we were done with vacation and just standing on the loud pedal until we got home.
In Denver, we made two very quick stops. Zach dropped me and Ada off at the Colorado Capitol, she ran up the stairs, I snapped this pic, he circled the block, and we were off again.
We also stopped at Riot, an ice cream shop that Zach and I found in 2019, which inspired our homemade Pop Tart ice cream sandwiches that got us through some really dark days of the early months of Covid lockdown.
From Denver, we were non-stop to North Platte, NE, where we stayed for the night.
