an American parade

Today while waiting in line in the bus lane at my daughter’s elementary school so that she could participate in the student “parade” to see the teachers she hasn’t seen in person in six weeks because of the pandemic, she showed me the tree in the yard of the church across the field, where she is supposed to run if there’s ever a bad person in her school and the teacher tells her to jump out the window and run away.
